we're like those people you see on TV who go to, like, pet spas & shit...

it took me until now to get the pictures working in Jazz's "obituary". now everyone should be able to see how handsome he was. anything less would be an insult to his memory. :)

today we had his remains transferred to a pet crematorium. we picked out a nice, um, receptacle i guess? it's not an urn. it's a wooden box that doubles as a picture frame. does that officially make us "crazy pet people"? backyard burial always seemed nice and simple to me but since we don't own our house and we don't know how long we'll be living here, it didn't seem right. and it's not like we're having him taxidermied or anything.

i'm a mess over this and so is Steve. we've both been much more emotional about losing Jazz than we were about either of our grandmothers. but our grandmothers lived far away so it's not like we noticed their absence in everyday things. i expect to see Jazz every time i enter a room. it bothers me that he's not bugging me for attention right now. he was a constant presence in our life and now there's a big hole.

i'm sure we'll get another cat. we've both owned up to the fact that we need us some cat cuddlin' and Ripley's too skittish to sit in a lap. but we'll need to wait until we're sure we're not trying to replace our buddy. we'll get another cat when it feels ok for that cat not to be Jazz.
