disjointed musings while waiting for my food

my husband is the best husband that ever husbanded. he's on his way to Maggiano's to pick up takeout for not-so-little-ol-me.

i have gained almost a pound a day so far this week. i was starting to get worried because i actually lost a little weight during the first trimester. i'm guessing that was due to the wacky appetite. then i started getting a belly but my weight stayed the same. wtf? all i can figure is that i was pulling cells from elsewhere in my body in order to construct my gut, although that begs the question where? at any rate, i'm relieved that i'm starting to pack it on. feel free to laugh at that statement. i may feel differently in a few months.

supposedly, the baby can hear as of this week. i'm sure this is a gradual thing (i can't imagine that auditory sensation emerges overnight) but just in case, i shoved some headphones under my waistband and let the baby listen to TMBG's Flood.

tired. so very tired. the current pattern is, i go to bed at around 9:30 every night and then have to get up sometime between 2 and 4AM to pee. the new development is that after the bathroom break, it takes me several hours to get back to sleep. i'm usually just starting to get some real rest when my alarm goes off at 7. so then i turn the alarm off, go back to bed and wake up when steve leaves to catch the bus. not surprisingly, i've been late to work every day this week. but i only count the days when someone else notices.

if i'm craving something, then there must be a reason, right? like, if i crave meat that means i need to eat something with protein. well recently i've been craving ice tea ALL THE TIME. what the hell does that mean? i drink it unsweetened (i'll never be a true southerner) so it's basically just bitter water. what is it about bitter water that my body wants so badly?

speaking of cravings, for the last several mornings on my (late) drive to work, i've been stuck behind a snack food truck (i think the company is called Bluebird) with a gigantic picture of cream-filled cupcakes on the back. it's impulse exploitation at its most basic and it's working. my food tastes have regressed quite a bit lately so for the first time in years, individually-wrapped, processed snack cakes seem REALLY appetizing to me. advertising is evil.

while searching for a picture of cupcakes to tack on the end of this post, i discovered that there is a mexican brand of cream-filled cupcakes called Pinguinos!!!!! i must have them.

since i don't know much spanish, i can't tell if this image was doctored as a joke or not. all i know is that the penguins look like their cupcake meal didn't sit too well with them, which doesn't seem like the best marketing strategy. i think the fine print says, "Comer pinguino puede causar problemas digestivos" which babelfish translated as, "To eat penguin can cause digestive problems." yeah, no shit.
