ketchup...catsup...?

oh, so much has happened in the weeks since i've last written...well, no, not really. there've just been a lot of little things that i kept meaning to write about but whenever i'd get a chance to write, something else always seemed more pressing...usually tv. speaking of which, there's a new episode of the Office on tonight. jim's back! yaay!

ahem. sorry. i'm going through a phase of uncharacteristically focused tv watching. i tend to get really into shows that get canceled, or ones that were canceled long before i started watching them. this makes netflix a must-have and means that it's unusual for me to follow as many current shows as i do right now. i watch Studio 60 on mondays, Lost on wednesdays and the Office on thursday. oh and Scrubs starts in a few weeks. i feel very immersed in pop culture right now. it's a bit scary. anyway, back to things you might actually be interested in...

first, i can't believe i didn't write about halloween, it being my favorite holiday and all. but it ended up being an uneventful day. i had a pretty shitty day at work and i had a headache, so steve ended up handing out candy. which reminds me: did any of you have kids ask for more candy after you put stuff in their bag? "i really like that kind. can i have some more?" NO. NO YOU MAY NOT. what kind of question is that?!? some people get all up-in-arms about the secularization of religious holidays and put stickers on their car that say, "don't take the christ out of christmas"...well, my crusade is to remind today's greedy little children about the True Meaning of Halloween.

Rule 1: DON'T ask for more candy or complain about the candy you get. IT'S FREE. if you want a shitload of twizzlers, take the money you would've spent on a costume and go buy a bag of twizzlers. which brings me to
Rule 2: getting free candy is a privilege, not a right. be a good sport and DRESS UP. if you are too "cool" for a costume, you are too "cool" for trick-or-treating.

i could go on & on about this, but i'll spare you. anyway, steve ended up handing out candy to the starving children desperate for their RDA of red dye 40, while i roasted pumpkin seeds and rewatched Hostel. not a bad way to spend an evening, i guess. and of course i carved a jack-o-lantern. how else could i get the seeds? halloween's not halloween without roasted pumpkin seeds.

isn't he cute? i like my pumpkins to be asymmetrical.

some of you may remember that about a year ago, i recorded a track on my friend's metal album. well, the cd has finally been pressed and was officially released on halloween. it retails for $6.66 (of course) but the first two people who contact me about it can have it for FREE. it's a whopping 11 tracks of crazy thrash/death metal with a healthy dose of blasphemy. the first track is an instrumental piece...kind of minimalist..additive structure, that sort of thing...not only did i play the cello line but i WROTE it, when i was fully convinced i could never write anything so BOO YEAH. in your FACE, me!

the weekend after halloween, we went to the Punkin' Chunkin'. this was my fourth time going, steve's third. it was awesome as usual. a couple of the trebuchets misfired, launching their pumpkins backwards into the crowd. whenever that happens, i always picture some poor guy walking back to his parking spot and finding his windshield smashed in by a rogue pumpkin. i wonder if insurance covers that kind of thing.

i'll try to write more frequently so i don't have to do these big catch-up entries. when i have more time & more energy, i'll write about zazen. it's awesome, i swear.
