my new year's resolution is to break through my inertia. so far, i'm doing ok at it. i'm starting to feel like a musician again & that's a miracle.
just got back from the PostSecret exhibit in georgetown. it was cathartic. because of the way the postcards were arranged, it was impossible to keep the same impersonal distance that seems to come naturally in art gallerys. it felt more like mingling at a party. we were all having the private but also shared experience of reading peoples' confessions.
yesterday, on my day off, one of our customers went nuts on us. he hallucinated placing an order with us, then called to add something to his nonexistent order. of course, no one could find this order in the computer because it wasn't there. since i was the only one not working at the time, it was assumed (at first) that i knew something about the situation. this made our customer jump to the conclusion that i had intentionally lost his order out of spite. he then advised my boss to "bitch-slap" me, at which point my boss told him never to order from us again. he called back today & seemed to remember none of this. he told me he was afraid my boss would have him "sent to Guantanamo". i'm not sure if this is one of the reasons i love my job or one of the reasons i hate it.
