strawberries

tommy read me this story:

A man traveling across a field encountered a tiger. He fled, the tiger after him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of the root of a wild vine and swung himself down over the edge. The tiger sniffed at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another tiger was waiting to eat him. Only the vine sustained him. Two mice, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away the vine. The man saw a luscious strawberry near him. Grasping the vine with one hand, he plucked the strawberry with the other. How sweet it tasted!

that's the version i could find online. it's a parable attributed to buddha, i think. anyway, i keep thinking about appreciating the little things and finding beauty in the darkest situations and things like that which are actually quite profound but sound generic & lame when i try to express them. so, in order to keep my focus, i made a list of mundane things that have made me happy recently.

- indian food
- indulging in cheesy pop music
- snowflakes the size of dimes
- watching zoe sleep
- conversations that last until 2 AM
- chocolate mousse pie
- putting on gloves or pajamas straight out of the dryer
- finding pants that fit & aren't horribly trendy (this rarely happens so i bought two pairs)
- singing really loudly in the car
- laughing at myself
